I Want Your Thoughts

Hey hey,

A little while ago I mentioned that I was preparing a book pitch and the first 5000 words of a creative non-fiction text. Today that draft was due.

7681 words, way too many hours of reading, and one mad scramble later, I’ve submitted it for my first round of formal feedback. But I felt I’d be remiss not to ask for your feedback too.

This is a link to the first draft. I have my own thoughts about what I like and what I think needs to change, but I don’t want to influence your read.

If you have the time and the inclination, I’d love to hear any thoughts you might have.

You can reach me via any of the usual means, but here is a link to an anonymous feedback form which you can use if you’d prefer.

Much love,

-Luke

  1. I haven’t read anything like this before. I liked it. A lot. I am 67 and don’t play many games except scrabble and a few other board games, but I was able to liken ‘games’ to real life challenges, pursuits, choices and goals. So in this I was wondering if you changed the word games to something else, that might encase a broader view with a wider audience? I’m not sure, of course, because your writing and deep insight is refreshing and comes from knowledgeable pursuits and an astute understanding of human nature.
    All the best.

    1. Thank you for your kind words Kitty!

The eventual goal is to suggest a framework which helps us to think of the infinite ‘games’ we play as meaningful pursuits which we can grow and foster. Looking over this draft I realise that I’ve used the word ‘game’ in many places where I actually should have used ‘pursuit’. In my next draft I plan to extend the discussion of meaningful pursuits in the hopes that this will add some clarity.

Thanks again for taking the time to read the work and respond. Appreciate it greatly.
